A free art party that featured artworks of local and expat artists living in Ho Chi Minh City, which was held in the southern city on April 25, impressed participants as it boasted exchanges between artists and other art enthusiasts, giving them a chance to share their experience in drawing.

Art lovers coming to the “Saigon Artbook” event received a free book which includes artworks of three local and expat artists as well as had a chance to meet the artists and other art enthusiasts.

This was the third time “Saigon Artbook” had been organized, attracting hundreds of attendees.

Two previous events, which were held in October 2013 and January 2014, respectively, also drew large audiences as they introduced creative artists and their unique artworks.

The three artists who participated in last week’s event were Khoa Le, a Vietnamese painter, writer and illustrator whose works are mostly about characters being alone in surreal landscapes, Laurent Judge, a French painter who arrived in Vietnam in 2010, and Kristopher Kotcher, a U.S. self-taught illustrator who often draws cartoon characters.

“It seems the older we get the less we use our imaginations… I enjoy creating a world all my own, manipulate as I please, create things never seen, feel the wonder of the way you would when you’re a kid,” Kotcher spoke of the artworks he brought to the event.

The “Saigon Artbook” was founded by American photographer Alexander McMillan who wants to offer a chance to young art aficionados for their networking and to local and expat artists who remain unknown to art lovers to show their talent.
