AustSwim certifies Vietnam swimming teachers

Australia’s AustSwim awarded Saturday international-standard certificates to 31 Vietnamese swimming teachers who completed its first training course held in the central province of Quang Nam.

The month-long course was co-organized by AustSwim and Tribob -- a charitable swimming school for Vietnamese children which has been operating for three years in the nation.

Not only swimming skills, learners were also instructed on water safety and emergency procedures and techniques for artificial respiration.

UNICEF statistics show that drowning is the number one killer of children under the age of 15 in Vietnam where on average 10 children drown every day.

This training will help them become wonderful coaches helping other coaches and school children to improve water safety skills in Vietnam, said Phil Johns, national president of Australian Football Club Vietnam Swans -- sponsor of the swimming program.
