Whether it is organizing a blood drive, a charity walk for Agent Orange victims or supporting Japan’s tsunami and earthquake victims, Vietnam Red Cross had an impressive performance last year.
It successfully directed and coordinated the 2011 “Pink Spring Festival” at My Dinh National Stadium.
With nearly 21,000 people in attendance, the festival was considered the most impressive, setting a record turnout since its first launch in 2008.
Along with other events during the year, Vietnam Red Cross received 769,702 blood units in total.
The ratio of voluntary blood donation was 88.7%, a 14% increase compared with 2010, surpassing the target set for 2011 by 102.5%.
Furthermore, Vietnam Red Cross ran a successful Action Month campaign and charity walks for Agent Orange victims in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Aimed to commemorate “50 years of Agent Orange disaster in Vietnam,” it attracted nearly 18,000 participants.
The event was the most successful to date in terms of the number of people involved in charity walks to aid Agent Orange sufferers.
Also, Vietnam Red Cross called for support towards Japanese victims following the tsunami and earthquake.
It was the most effective domestic appeal ever with donations totaling over VND161.3 billion (over US$7.7 million), raising the organization’s gross value of campaigns in 2011 to over VND2,230 billion ($106.2 million).
