Tuoitrenews: Below is another winning entry for the "Who's Who" English writing contest held by Tuoitrenews from January 17 to February 16, where entrants are asked to share their thoughts about Mark Zuckerberg’s trip to Vietnam on Christmas 2011.
“Move fast, take risks, it’s okay to try big things” – TIME’s person of the year 2010, Mark Zuckerberg said. Within 7 years, the social network Facebook, that he created, has attracted more than 5 hundred million users. 7 years ago, Zuckerberg dropped out of Havard University to fully engage in building the site. The idea that Facebook would make such an impact must have sounded very impossible for a junior, but anyway, it’s okay to try.
Zuckerberg’s phenomenal success was no stroke of luck. Ever since he was a child, he constantly tried to build new things, particularly software programs. Not every child is able to do what they love so freely. However, this owner of Facebook was. Even more, when growing up, he decided to leave the prestigious Havard and started his own business. As a student, I found that dropping out of school right before you’re about to graduate could be more or less a death sentence. With a bachelor’s degree, a graduate still feels insecure and unsure, let alone having nothing. To drop out, Zuckerberg was not only daring. He had a strong sense of commitment that he must definitely succeed. Eventually Facebook was developed by Zuckerberg. If somebody else came up with this idea, it’s unlikely that they could carry it out just as well. Behind the success of Facebook is the excellent effort of a guy called Mark Zuckerberg.
The surprise is that this young billionaire appears very simple and casual. Going to work or travelling to Vietnam, he always wears a T-shirt and jeans. He didn’t eat luxurious food and didn’t stay in a luxurious room. The image of Zuckerberg riding a buffalo seems so idyllic. So is this trip all a strange choice, or do we all have a weird way of viewing a rich and famous person? For so long I’ve been programmed to believe that people pursue wealth and achievements so that they can have a luxurious lifestyle. And here the youngest billionaire in the world shows me that he earned a lot and still leads a simple peaceful life. His trip does teach me something. The one who is truly successful doesn’t need to follow trends or taste luxury.
Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t only contribute Facebook to the world, he also contributes his own life as an example for others to learn. In work, he is daring and determined. In personal moments, he is casual and easy. I really hope that more students learn of his stories and his successful personality . We need more of these to feed our souls and to motivate our will for the upcoming years.
