Inspectorate result on TV rights to release this week

The results of the inspection into the contract between the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and digital TV service provider AVG will be released this week, said Tran Quang Vinh, an official from the Ministry of Culture, Sport, and Tourism.

Vinh, head of the inspectorate of the ministry, said the inspection results will enable football audiences to know which of the two parties is on the wrong side in the contract which awarded AVG the exclusive telecast rights for 20 years, starting from the 2012 season.

Vietnam Profession Football (VPF), the current operator of Vietnam’s top-tier Super League, does not have any rights or duties in the telecast deal, so the inspection conclusion will not regard this institution, added Vinh.

He said the inspectors sought to find whether or not the deal was appropriately conducted when VFF inked the contract with AVG without the agreement from the football clubs, which hold joint ownership over the TV rights with VFF.

Moreover, the inspectors also detected whether the contract was valid as VFF was allegedly not licensed to operate in the TV sector, he said.

“The inspection results will make these all clear,” affirmed Vinh.

“The conclusion will be legally valid, and accurate.”
