Winning a total of 54 gold medals till Wednesday, Vietnam has moved up to the second place on the SEA Games medal standings after the host Indonesia with 83 golds.
The medals came from competition in chess, rowing and shooting today. Dao Thien Hai and Nguyen Thi Thanh An snatched a gold in mixed double chess while Le Quang Liem got another gold in the men’s chess division.
Ngo Huu Vuong topped the chart in men’s running target with 556 points, followed by his compatriot Do Duc Hung with 550 points and Masruri of Indonesia with 543 points. Hoang Xuan Vinh grabbed the other gold in men’s 25m center fire pistol with 585 points, above the Thai Jakkrit Panichpati at 580 and Ha Minh Thanh of Vietnam at 579.
The third gold for shooting was taken home by Nguyen Duy Hoang in men’s 50m 3-position rifle.
Tran Thi Sam, Pham Thi Thao, Pham Thi Hue and Pham Thi Hai won two golds in rowing doubles and quartet events. Three remaining gold medals were from wrestling and vovinam.
With a total of 54 gold medals, Vietnam pushed Thailand down to the third place holding only 51 gold medals.
The 26th SEA Games is being held in Indonesia from November 11-22. In the previous edition two years ago, Thailand topped the chart with 86 gold medals leaving Vietnam at second with 83 and Indonesia at third with 43.
