Vietnam train behind closed doors at SEA Games

The Vietnamese team trained behind closed doors yesterday ahead of the group B football match tomorrow against Timor Leste in the Southeast Asian Games being held in Indonesia.

One of the players, who wished to remain unnamed, later told Tuoi Tre that German coach Falko Goetz had tried out some offensive tactics.

“Timor Leste players are big and tall and are strong in the air,” Vietnam’s assistant coach Phung Thanh Phuong said.

“The match will not be easy.”

Timor Leste, once considered among the region’s minnows, now stand atop group B with six points after beating Brunei and the Philippines by identical 2-1 scorelines.

Vietnam are in second place above Myanmar on goal difference.

At the hotel after training the team received Minister of Finance Vuong Dinh Hue who is on a visit to Jakarta.

He told the side who had played a goalless draw with Myanmar Saturday: “We don’t need to win every game, but must be determined to win the final.”

The minister also gifted the team US$1,000 from the allowance for his 10-day business trip.
