Vietnamese athletes won 18 gold medals yesterday at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Indonesia, with gymnastics contributing nine golds and track and field adding three more.
Gymnasts Phan Thi Ha Thanh and Do Thi Ngan Thuong won two golds each, with Thanh winning the women’s pommel horse and all-round events, and Thuong taking the top spot in the women’s uneven bars and balance beam events.
Pham Phuoc Hung won two titles in men’s rings and horizontal bars.
Three other gold medalists were Nguyen Hoang Cuong in the men’s all-round event, Nguyen Tuan Dat in men’s pommel horse, and Nguyen Ha Thanh in parallel bars.
After winning the women’s 1,500m run two days ago, Truong Thanh Hang claimed another title in the 800m run; her third consecutive gold in this event at the SEA Games.
Duong Van Thai won the men’s 800m run and Nguyen Van Hung took home another gold in the men’s three-step jump.
Yesterday was also a big day for Vietnamese wrestlers Nguyen Van Duc and Tran Thi Dieu Ninh, who grabbed two gold medals. Shooting, fencing, taekwondo and Vovinam each added a medal to the haul of 18 golds yesterday.
