Despite of winning three more gold medals on Saturday to add to its haul of 74 golds, Vietnam dropped to the third place on the standings with one gold less than the second ranked Thailand.
In the all-Vietnam final game of men’s singles billiard 3-cushion event, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen defeated Duong Anh Vu to claim a gold. Among the 10 billiards events at SEA Games, Vietnam won two gold, a silver and 5 bronze medals.
Chau Ba Anh Tu bagged home a gold medal in the men’s ten kilometer swimming event, clocking 2 hours 14 minutes 32:94 seconds. Two days ago, Tu had clinched another gold medal in the men’s 5km swimming event.
The third gold medal today belonged to Nguyen Thi Mai Phuong in the women’s non-combat wushu. It is the first gold for Vietnam from wushu competition at the 26th SEA Games.
Vietnamese athletes also grabbed five silver and seven bronze medals today.
Yet, Vietnam had to concede its second place to Thailand with 75 gold medals. Host Indonesia remains its top place, leaving a big gap behind after pocketing a total of 130 gold medals.
