The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has formed a team to conduct inspections on ticket sales, declarations, and pricing practices of Vietnamese airlines in accordance with a directive from the transport minister.

The inspection, set to last from Tuesday to Thursday, follows a recent surge in domestic airfare rates which have crimped the accessibility of travel for the public.

The inspection team, led by Do Hong Cam, deputy head of the authority, includes 10 members.

The team will scrutinize ticket sales and pricing operations at local airlines from the start of 2024.

Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang on Friday last week issued a dispatch telling the Transportation Department under the ministry and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to step up efforts to review and oversee sky-high domestic airline ticket prices.

Airfares have skyrocketed, especially during the holiday commemorating Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers' Day (May 1) from April 27 to May 1, affecting travel demand, according to the dispatch.

The authority was told to ramp up investigations into ticket sales, declarations, and pricing practices among local air carriers to curb any unlawful inflation of airfares.

Meanwhile, the Transportation Department was tasked with keeping a close watch on air passenger transport operations, improving passenger services, and stabilizing airfares.

The minister ordered relevant units not to let air ticket prices soar during the upcoming summer vacation, when travel demand often booms.
