Host Vietnam lost 3-0 to Uzbekistan in the second leg of the 2015 Asian Cup qualifiers’ group E in Hanoi today. Last month, Vietnam had been beaten 3-1 in the first leg in Tashkent.
Despite showing determination in the game, the host team of coach Nguyen Van Sy failed to prevent the visitors from scoring.
Shodiev opened the score in the 40th minute following a mistake of goalkeeper Tan Truong. Two other goals came in the second half by Igor Sergeev in the 46th minute and Rashidov in the 89th minute.
During the whole game, Vietnam could truly threaten Uzbek goalkeeper Suyunov once in the middle of the second half when he jumped to clear a shot of midfielder Tan Tai.
With the win, Uzbekistan gained seven points after four matches, including two wins and a draw, and ranked second in group E after the leader United Arab Emirates with nine points.
Hong Kong is standing third with four points after three games and Vietnam is at the bottom with all four losses.
The loss put an end to Vietnam's hope of advancing to the later round of the Asian Cup 2015.
