Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has green-lighted five consecutive days off for the upcoming Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1) holiday, following the proposal of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs, the Government Office announced on Friday.

As the Reunification Day and International Workers’ Day fall on Tuesday and Wednesday this year, PM Chinh agreed with the ministry on allowing public workers to take April 29 (Monday) off and make up on May 4.

This holiday break is aimed at letting public workers fully enjoy five straight days off from Saturday to Wednesday, or from April 27 to May 1.

It is also expected to boost consumption, while promoting local tourism and economic growth.

The government leader tasked Minister of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung with informing state-run agencies, businesses, and workers nationwide of this five-day break.

PM Chinh added that the agencies and businesses have to make arrangements to ensure their operations are not disrupted and arising problems will be addressed during the holiday.

This holiday applies to officials, civil servants, and employees of administrative agencies, political organizations, and socio-political organizations.

Employers of private businesses are encouraged to apply this holiday break plan but have to ensure the adequate provision of employee benefits, the ministry said.
