Police in Ho Chi Minh City are investigating a foreign man who allegedly molested a grade-4 schoolgirl at a local supermarket last weekend.

The foreigner, whose personal details have yet to be announced, was accused of the molestation at a superstore on Phan Van Tri Street in Go Vap District.

The victim is a grade-4 schoolgirl who was taken by her mother, C., to the supermarket to shop last Saturday evening, according to Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper.

C. then met and talked with a friend of hers at the shopping area while her daughter went to the first floor to entertain herself.  

A while later, the little girl came back in panic and informed her mother that she had been molested by a foreign man.

C. took her daughter back to the first floor to look for the man, but the alleged molester ran out of the supermarket when he saw the little girl and her mother. 

The mother took her daughter to the police office in Ward 5 of Go Vap District to report the case.

After examining the surveillance camera footage at the supermarket, police officers identified the suspect and coordinated with other police units to search for the man.

Police officers already located the man and escorted him to their office for interrogation, according to Tien Phong.

Also by checking the camera footage, investigators discovered that within one hour, the foreign man approached and molested at least three little girls, including the girl who reported him, Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper reported, citing its own source. 

However, police have so far received only one report from the mother of the said girl.

The investigation into the case is still underway.
