Acclaimed Australian films 'Top End Wedding' and 'Storm Boy' are being shown at select cinemas in Ho Chi Minh City from April 6 to 13.

The public screenings of the two films take place in partnership with the first-ever Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival, the Australian Consulate General said in a press release on Thursday.

The screenings are expected to offer a captivating cinematic experience to film enthusiasts and the general public in Ho Chi Minh City.

They also form an integral part of the inaugural Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival, an event designed to promote cultural dialogues and enhance cross-cultural understanding, according to the press release.

'Top End Wedding' follows the heartwarming journey of Lauren and Ned across the Australian outback in search of Lauren's missing mother.

Meanwhile, 'Storm Boy' presents an adventure set against the breathtaking backdrop of South Australia, delving into the themes of friendship and wildlife protection.

"We are honored to present these distinguished Australian films, which showcase the depth and diversity of Australian storytelling," said Ciaran Chestnutt, acting consul general at the Australian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.

"These screenings underscore our commitment to fostering cultural exchange and appreciation for international cinema."

Admission to these screenings is VND 50,000 (US$2) and tickets are available for purchase at Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival’s website at hiff.vn/tickets.

Amongst the screenings will be a free screening of 'Top End Wedding' at Galaxy Nguyen Du at 116 Nguyen Du Street in District 1 on April 12 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Though entry is free, advanced registration is required at hiff.vn/ticket/top-end-wedding-4.

The Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival (HIFF), which is hosted by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, is an annual cinematic extravaganza that celebrates the art of storytelling through film.

Nestled in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, HIFF serves as a global platform for filmmakers, industry professionals, and film enthusiasts to come together, share their love for cinema, and explore the magic of storytelling through the lens.

The 2024 HIFF is taking place from April 6 to 13.
