American saxophonist and composer Kenny G’s only music video for the song ‘Going Home,’ which was filmed at Hanoi’s renowned heritage sites, also made its release in the Vietnamese capital city on Friday afternoon.

The music video was filmed during Kenny G’s performance in Hanoi in November 2023, organized by Nhan Dan (People) newspaper.

However, the release was delayed due to the lengthy copyright application process.

The track ‘Going Home’ is part of Kenny G’s album ‘Kenny G Live,’ produced in 1989, which was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 1991 and remains one of his most popular works.

In the music video, Kenny G is seen playing a saxophone at dawn near Long Bien Bridge before visiting iconic landmarks in Hanoi such as Hoan Kiem Lake, Hoa Phong Tower, The Huc Bridge, the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Hanoi flagpole, and the Temple of Literature.

During the launch event on Friday, Le Quoc Minh, editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan newspaper, highlighted that this was the first time the daily had promoted Vietnamese tourism through a music video, rather than traditional news reporting.

Nguyen Thuy Duong, the music video’s producer representative, mentioned that it took eight months to convince Kenny G to participate in the production, as this is his only music video for ‘Going Home’ worldwide.

Kenny G, known for his meticulousness, had strict requirements regarding filming time, quality, and post-production.

In the contract, the saxophonist stipulated that he could refuse if his health or the technical aspects of filming were compromised.

He also reserved the right to reject the music video if he was not satisfied after post-production.

Fortunately, he did not request any edits to the final music video after filming and post-production.

Kenny G, born Kenneth Bruce Gorelick, is a 67-year-old American smooth jazz saxophonist, composer, and producer.

His 1986 album 'Duotones' propelled him to commercial success, making him one of the best-selling artists worldwide.

The artist sold over 75 million records globally, according to Wikipedia.
