As many as 870,000 visitors joined the Southern Folk Cake Festival, which took place in Can Tho City in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta from April 17 to 21.

Speaking at the closing ceremony for the fest at a square in Binh Thuy District on Sunday, Dao Thi Thanh Thuy, deputy head of the Can Tho City Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said that the folk cake festival featured around 200 booths showcasing cakes and specialties from 12 cities and provinces nationwide.

The five-day fest served 870,000 visitors and treated them to a wide array of cakes and appealing cultural activities.

Fest-goers were wowed during the event by a huge sizzling crepe (banh xeo), a display of an impressive dress inspired from banh xeo, and a LED-light kite flying program, according to the department.

The 11th edition of the fest was spotlighted by the giant sizzling crepe and a miniature of the Thuan Hung rice paper craft village in the city's Thot Not District.

The fest contributed to preserving the image and cultural value of the southern folk cakes, and promoting Vietnamese cuisine, said the department.
